Electrical Services

Requests covering outlets, switches, lighting, ceiling fans, panels, wiring questions and general electrical safety checks.

Introduction

Electrical issues rarely stay small in a homeowner's mind, and that caution is reasonable. Easy Home Maintenance gives you a structured way to describe what is happening so the request carries the detail that matters.

Whether a single outlet stopped working or you are planning added lighting, the same form applies. Please do not open panels, test live wiring or attempt repairs you are unsure about. If you smell burning, see scorch marks or notice sparking, stop using the circuit and treat it as urgent with your local utility or emergency services.

What this covers

Areas included in electrical requests

Use these groupings to work out how to describe your own situation.

Electrical troubleshooting

Intermittent faults are the hardest to describe from memory, so note when they happen and what else is running at the time. Patterns such as a light that dims when an appliance starts are genuinely useful information.

  • Circuits that lose power without warning
  • Breakers that trip when specific appliances run
  • Lights that flicker or dim under load
  • Outlets that work only sometimes

Outlets and switches

Worn devices, loose connections and older two-prong receptacles are common request topics. Include the room, the number of affected devices and whether a reset button has already been pressed.

  • Dead or loose receptacles
  • GFCI outlets that will not reset
  • Switch replacement and dimmer additions
  • Additional outlets in a specific room

Indoor and outdoor lighting

Lighting requests span replacement fixtures, added circuits, exterior fittings and controls. Say whether you want the same fixture positions kept or a different layout considered.

  • Fixture replacement and repositioning
  • Recessed and under-cabinet lighting enquiries
  • Exterior, porch and pathway lighting
  • Motion sensors, timers and smart controls

Ceiling fans

Fan requests usually involve a new installation, a replacement, wobble or noise. Ceiling boxes are not all rated for a fan, so mention whether a fan has ever hung in that spot before.

  • New fan installation where a light exists
  • Fan replacement and remote pairing
  • Wobble, rattle or hum concerns
  • Fans on sloped or high ceilings

Electrical panels

Panel questions include labelling, space for new circuits, older equipment and capacity for added appliances. Describe what you are planning rather than only what you have.

  • Adding a dedicated circuit
  • Panel capacity questions for new appliances
  • Older or obsolete panel enquiries
  • Clear circuit labelling requests

Wiring concerns

Older homes often mix wiring generations, and some rooms carry more load than they were designed for. Note the age of the property if you know it and anything unusual you have found behind a cover plate.

  • Warm cover plates or discoloured devices
  • Extension cords used as permanent wiring
  • Aluminium or cloth-covered wiring questions
  • Wiring for a room addition or garage

Upgrades and safety checks

Some requests are planned rather than reactive: adding capacity, improving lighting quality, or reviewing a property that has just been purchased. A general safety review can be requested in the same way.

  • Whole-home lighting improvement plans
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarm placement
  • Surge protection enquiries
  • General inspection of visible devices and fittings

Signs assistance may be required

  • A breaker trips repeatedly on the same circuit
  • Outlets or switch plates feel warm to the touch
  • Lights flicker when large appliances start
  • There is a burning smell near a device or fixture
  • Outlets are discoloured, cracked or loose in the wall
  • You rely on extension cords for everyday use

What to include in your request

  • Which rooms or circuits are affected
  • What the issue looks or smells like and when it started
  • Whether a breaker or GFCI has tripped
  • The approximate age of the property if you know it
  • Your ZIP Code and preferred contact method

The process

How the request process works

The same steps apply whether the request is small or large.

  1. 1

    Describe the need

Select Electrical in the form, add your ZIP Code and write what is happening in plain language.

  2. 2

    Review of your request

Your details are read in full and availability is assessed for that service in your ZIP Code.

  3. 3

    Follow-up and next steps

You are contacted about availability. Nothing is arranged until you agree to it.

Questions

Electrical questions

We recommend against it. Resetting a tripped breaker or GFCI is normally fine, but opening devices, panels or junction boxes carries real risk. Describe the issue instead and leave the circuit off if anything seems unsafe.
